CLASSES

Pre-Ballet (ages 4 - 6)

Our Pre-Ballet classes offer children the opportunity to learn many important components of ballet training in a fun and engaging atmosphere. Students will explore rhythm and musicality, gain strength, flexibility, and spatial awareness, exercise mind, body, and imagination, create new friends, and learn class etiquette during lessons that blend creative movement with basic ballet vocabulary

Primary

Primary classes provide a bridge between Pre-Ballet and Level 1. Students experience barre work for the first time in this level, and new steps are introduced, both at the barre and in center. Elements of creative movement continue to be explored in order to develop artistry and imagination, as well as to provide a smooth transition to more rigorous training in the levels that follow.

Level 1

Level 1 students will learn all of the elements of a traditional classical ballet class, beginning at the barre and moving into center. The focus of this level will be building strength, practicing good placement and clean ballet technique, artistry, and enjoying the satisfaction of hard work while creating something beautiful.

Level 2

Level 2 students will continue to build on material introduced in previous levels. Exercises at the barre will include use of the arms and head and will gradually increase in complexity and speed. Center work will also be expanded, and students will explore the challenge of combining steps into enchainments. Level 2 students will also focus on the strength and placement necessary for the preparation of pointe work upon graduation from this level.

Level 3

Level 3 students will continue to build on the foundation gained in previous levels. Barre and center work will become increasingly complex as strength and coordination are gained. Pointe work is introduced in this level.

Adult Program: Introduction to Ballet

Introduction to Ballet is a class designed for those who have no ballet experience and is also ideal for those who are returning to ballet after a long absence. A traditional classical ballet class format is followed, beginning with barre work and progressing to center work. Every step is presented in its most basic form and then built upon each week.

Adult Program: Beginning/Intermediate

Beginning/Intermediate is a class for those with previous ballet experience. Exercises in this class are more complex and are performed more quickly than in Introduction to Ballet. Usage of the head and arms is also expanded, and combinations are presented with options as to the difficulty level, designed to accommodate a variety of skill levels.
