ADULT PROGRAM
Adult Program Overview
Pacific Northwest Youth Ballet’s Adult Program offers adults a chance to learn classical ballet technique while gaining strength and coordination, improving balance, having fun and enjoying a sense of community with other students, and getting a good work out. Classes are taught with attention to detail, and each step is clearly explained and demonstrated. All classes include live piano accompaniment, which greatly enhances the ballet class experience and develops musicality in dancing. Whether you have never taken a ballet class before, are an experienced dancer, have always been curious about ballet, or just like the idea of combining movement with music, you will find Pacific Northwest Youth Ballet’s adult classes challenging, rewarding, and enjoyable.
Introduction to Ballet Class Description
Introduction to Ballet is a class designed for those who have no ballet experience and is also ideal for those who are returning to ballet after a long absence. A traditional classical ballet class format is followed, beginning with barre work and progressing to center work. Every step is presented in its most basic form and then built upon each week.
Anyone, aged 13+, is welcome to join this class. A new session will begin each term. Those joining after the third class of a session will be admitted by teacher discretion on a case-by-case basis. Tuition will be prorated for anyone joining after the third class of a session. To begin the enrollment process, please click HERE.
Beginning/Intermediate Ballet Class Description
Beginning/Intermediate is a class for those with previous ballet experience. Exercises in this class are more complex and are performed more quickly than in Introduction to Ballet. Usage of the head and arms is also expanded, and combinations are presented with options as to the difficulty level, designed to accommodate a variety of skill levels.
*Please Note* For anyone new to ballet, three sessions of Introduction to Ballet must be completed before joining Beginning/Intermediate Ballet. Experienced dancers, aged 13+, may join Beginning/Intermediate Ballet directly. A new session begins each term. Tuition will be prorated for those joining after the third class of a session. Adult Program Dress Code
Adult students are encouraged to wear comfortable, close-fitting clothing. Traditional ballet class clothing, such as leotard and tights, work well, as do leggings or shorts with a close fitting shirt. Loose-fitting clothes do not allow the teacher to see a student’s technique and can also present safety hazards. Dance belts are required for gentlemen. All students are required to wear canvas or leather flat ballet shoes. Please refrain from wearing jewelry that may come loose.
Sweating and body odor are common when you exercise. However, both perfume use and body odor can have a negative effect on those around you. Refraining from using fragrances, remembering to use deodorant, and keeping clothing clean and fresh are all good ways to avoid problems with odors. If there is an ongoing issue with offensive odors, the situation will be discussed privately with the individual.
Refusal to comply with dress code may result in dismissal from class until the situation is rectified.
