Olivia Pyne — School Director
Oregon native Olivia began studying ballet in the Portland area at the age of six, later joining Oregon Ballet Theatre School (OBTS) as a student in 2008 during Damara Bennett’s tenure as School Director. She was soon promoted to the position of teacher’s assistant and, in 2009, Olivia joined the faculty of OBTS. In 2017, she became Head Children’s Coach for George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. In summer of 2018, Olivia attended the Teacher’s Workshop at the world-renowned Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. In addition to teaching, she has also acted as a rehearsal assistant for OBTS students in works that include Con Amore, Peter and the Wolf, The Nutcracker, Circus Polka, and Coppélia. Olivia has appeared in Oregon Ballet Theatre’s productions of Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker.
Katie Pyne — Resident Accompanist
Katie, a member of the Music Teachers National Association, Oregon Music Teachers Association, and National Federation of Music Clubs, has maintained a private piano studio for over 20 years. She accompanied classes for Oregon Ballet Theatre School from 2008-2020. She is thrilled to be able to work alongside her sisters, providing classical music, standard ballet repertoire, as well as popular favorites for the students of Pacific Northwest Youth Ballet.
Katie loves worshiping the Lord every Sunday (from the piano bench). She also enjoys hiking, reading old books, and traveling, especially to Ireland.
Sara Pyne — School Administrator
Sara is a violinist who performs in numerous orchestras in the Pacific Northwest. She has played with the Oregon Ballet Theatre, Vancouver Symphony, Portland Columbia Symphony, Newport Symphony, and Portland Festival Symphony Orchestras, and she has performed with legendary Judy Collins and world-renowned artist Andrea Bocceli. She has performed all over the northwest and abroad, including New Zealand, Australia, and Paris. Having been the assistant librarian with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra for many years, she has had the opportunity to work with artists from around the world including Itzhak Perlman, Rene Fleming, Joshua Bell, Steve Martin, and John Williams. She also provides music for weddings and events in a duo with her twin sister.
Having studied ballet for years as a child and later joining the Portland Youth Philharmonic as a violinist, she has experienced the benefits that come with diligent study of art as a youth. As School Administrator for Pacific Northwest Youth Ballet, Sara looks forward to greeting you as you enter the studio to pursue this beautiful art form.
Sara enjoys traveling, serving at her church, cooking, hiking, and painting.
